April 28th-May 2nd

Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Dress in your Rams gear this Monday the 28th to celebrate our MAP testing theme "Home Town Pride".
  • Friday we will have our Nurses for Newborns Baby Shower.  Please read the purple sheet that came home with your child on Friday to read what types of items may be donated!
  • Our change in schedule continues this week so make sure to send your child with a snack each day!
  • Please remind your child to turn in their monthly reading log this week!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  We have finished our poetry unit and this week we are moving on to writing gripping fictional stories!


Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to continue talking about the three levels that good readers use to question a text.  We are going to work on recognizing and using all three levels while we read.


Social Studies:  This week we are beginning the third unit of our social studies text: Ways of Living.  We will discuss the many cultures and customs that are present in our community, state, and nation!

Math:  This week we are beginning Chapter 20: Spatial Sense.  We will discuss what makes a shape congruent and symmetrical!

April 21st-25th

Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Dress in your Blues gear this Monday the 21st to celebrate our MAP testing theme "Home Town Pride".
  • Wednesday is an early release day.  Dismissal is at 1:40.
  • Friday is our Field Trip to the Zoo! Please remember to have your child dress appropriately for the weather and to bring a disposable lunch!  
  • We have a change in schedule for the next two weeks so make sure to send your child with a snack each day!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  During writer's workshop this week we are going to continue our unit on Poetry.  This week students are going to experiment with point of view in their poetry!


Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to continue talking about the three levels that good readers use to question a text.  We are going to work on recognizing and using all three levels while we read.


Science:  This week we are going to focus on the classification of animals in order to prepare for our field trip on Friday!

Math:  This week we are going to continue Chapter 19: Solid Figures.  We will identify the plane shapes that make up a sphere, cone, cylinder, cube, pyramid, and rectangular prism!

April 14th-April 17th

Important Reminders:

  • Dress in your Flyers gear this Monday the 14th to celebrate our MAP testing theme "Home Town Pride"
  • We do not have school this Friday, April 18th.
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  During writer's workshop this week we are going to continue our unit on Poetry.  This week students are going to experiment with the structure of their poetry!


Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to continue talking about the three levels that good readers use to question a text.  The third level that we will focus on this week is "Thinking About a Text".  Students will think about the purpose of the author's writing as we look closely at poetry.


Science:  We are going to continue studying earth's materials.  On Wednesday we will have the chapter test.  Vocabulary review cards will be coming home with your child on Tuesday night.  Please review these with your child to prepare for the test on Wednesday!

Math:  This week we are going to begin Chapter 19: Solid Figures.  We will identify the characteristics of a sphere, cone, cylinder, cube, pyramid, and rectangular prism!

Pen Pal Letters

On Friday, we had a blast reading letters from our pen pals at Crestwood Elementary! This is the third letter students have received from their pen pals and we are enjoying making new friends!

Important Reminders:

  • Dress in your Cardinal's gear this Monday the 7th to celebrate Opening Day and this Friday the 11th for an assembly!
  • Students that ordered a Circus Shirt are asked to wear those on Wednesday during school as well as at the performance.  The Circus performance is at 6 p.m. on Wednesday!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  During writer's workshop this week we are going to continue our unit on Poetry.  Students are going to work on using comparisons to clarify our feelings and ideas!


Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to continue talking about the three levels that good readers use to question a text.  The third level that we will focus on this week is "Thinking About a Text".  Students will think about the purpose of the author's writing as we look closely at poetry.


Science:  We are going to continue studying earth's materials.  This week we will describe the ways we can protect the earth's environment!

Math:  On Friday we are going to have our Chapter 18 test on Plane Shapes.  Discuss the characteristics of a square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, trapezoid, parallelogram, and circle in order to review.  Be on the lookout for the extra practice sheet that will be coming home Thursday!
