March 31st-April 4th

Dear Families of Room 11,
Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • Please remind your child to turn in their monthly reading log this week!

Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  During writer's workshop this week we are going to continue our unit on Poetry.  Students are going work on giving their poems rhythm, sound, and music to bring out meaning!

Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to continue talking about the three levels that good readers use to question a text.  The third level that we will focus on this week is "Thinking About a Text".  Students will think about the purpose of the author's writing.

Science:  We are going to continue studying earth's materials.  This week we will describe and classify soils!

Math:  On Tuesday we are going to have our Chapter 16 test, Interpreting Tables and Graphs.  Be on the lookout for the extra practice sheet that will be coming home Monday!

March 24th-28th

Dear Families of Room 11,
Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable spring break! Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • The monthly Leader in Me Assembly is this Friday at 9:00 a.m.  Our class is performing the Seven Habits Cup Song hand motions.  Make sure your child is practicing at home!  

Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  During writer's workshop this week we are going to begin a new unit on Poetry.  Students are going to begin looking at the world through "poets' eyes"!  Throughout the week students may bring in items from outside, around the house, etc. that they have viewed differently since using their poets' eyes.

Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to continue talking about the three levels that good readers use to question a text.  The third level that will be introduced this week is "Thinking About a Text".  Students will think about the purpose of the author's writing.

Science:  We are going to continue studying earth's materials.  This week we will talk about the many natural resources that the Earth has and those that are replaceable vs. irreplaceable.

Math:  This week in math we are going to begin Chapter 16, Interpreting Tables and Graphs.  We are going to focus on using graphs to help us solve problems.

March 10th-14th

Dear Families of Room 11,
Can you believe there is just one more week until spring break?  Time sure does fly by! Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:
  • This Friday, March 10th, is a half day.  Dismissal is at 11:50 am.
  • Scholastic Book Orders are due this Wednesday the 12th!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  During writer's workshop this week students will write a St. Patrick's Day opinion piece on why they feel they are lucky!

Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to continue talking about the three levels that good readers use to question a text.  The second level that we will talk about is "Thinking Beyond a Text".

Science:  We are going to continue studying earth's materials.  This week we will talk about the many natural resources that the Earth has.

Math:  On Friday, we will be having our Chapter 15 test on Understanding Time.  In order to help your child prepare for this test at home you can practice reciting the months in a year!

March 3rd-7th

Dear Families of Room 11,
I hope everyone is staying warm on this cold snow day!  Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:
  • This Friday, March 7th, is a half day.  Dismissal is at 11:50 am.
  • Please remind your child to turn in their February Reading Log sometime this week!
  • The Mother/Son dance is this Tuesday night from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Concord Gym.
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  During writer's workshop this week students will publish their final book nomination!

Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to continue talking about the three levels that good readers use to question a text.  The second level that we will talk about is "Thinking Beyond a Text".

Science:  We are going to begin our next science unit this week, Earth's Materials.  This week we will talk about the many natural resources that the Earth has.

Math:  On Wednesday, we will be having our Chapter 14 test on Telling Time.  In order to help your child prepare for this test at home you can practice telling time together!
