February 24th-28th

Dear Families of Room 11,
I hope you had a great weekend!  Listed below are the objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  During writer's workshop this week students practice using quotes in their book nominations!

Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to begin talking about the three levels that good readers use to question a text.  The first level that we will talk about is "Thinking Within a Text".

Social Studies:  In social studies we are going to review for our test on Wednesday!  A study guide will be going home with students on Monday.

Math:  During math this week we are going to continue practice telling time.  We will begin using the terms "half past", "quarter past", and "quarter to" so feel free to practice these terms with your child at home!

February 18th-21st

Important Reminders:
  • Spring pictures are this Friday, February 21st.
  • There is a PTG General Meeting this Tuesday at 7:00 in the PD Room!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  During writer's workshop this week students will "nominate" their favorite books for awards and they will write their opinion for the nomination of that book!

Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to continue to use close reading as a reading strategy and analyze a text across multiple days.

Social Studies:  In social studies we are going to learn about the different types of money that is used all around the world!

Math:  On Wednesday, we will be having our Chapter 13 test.  In order to help your child prepare for this test at home you can practice making change from $1.00 and comparing money to determine which is the greater amount!

February 10th-14th

Important Reminders:
  • We are doing an awesome job at collecting box tops and so far we have over 600.  We have until February 14th to keep bringing them in.  Keep up the great work!
  • On Wednesday we have our field trip to the Powell Hall Symphony as well as an early release day. 
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  During writer's workshop this week we are going to continue writing letters about our favorite books, characters, etc. to people in our lives.  We are also going to write friendly letters to our pen pals at Crestwood Elementary!

Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to continue to use close reading as a reading strategy and analyze a text across multiple days.

Social Studies:  In social studies we are going to learn about the use of bartering and trading goods compared to using money!

Math:  This week in math we will be continuing to practice using money.  We are going to work on making change from a dollar as well as using estimation as a problem solving tool.

Classroom Guests!

Today we had two special guests come to our room! First, Mrs. Thomas (Austin's mom) came to our room to teach us ways to incorporate the 7 Habits into our everyday life. We learned ways to practice using concentration to stay focused on the task at hand. Thank you, Mrs. Thomas!
Our second guest today was our Mystery Reader!  Mrs. Krause (Jack's mom) came and read a few great books to our class today. We really enjoyed having her as our Mystery Reader! Thank you, Mrs. Krause!

Mystery Reader and 100th Day Festivities!

Today we had a very eventful day! Not only did Mrs. Wollenberg come to our class as a Mystery Reader (thank you, thank you!) but we also celebrated the 100th day of school!  To celebrate we each brought in a collection of 100 items. Our collections included Legos, marshmallows, Teddy Graham's, letters, pieces of scrap paper, cotton balls, gumballs, pennies, stickers, candy hearts, and many more creative items! We had a great day celebrating the fact that we are 100 days smarter, check out some of the pictures from our day!

February 3rd-7th

I hope you had a great weekend and you are ready for another full week of school!  Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • The 100th day of school is this Monday, the 3rd.  Please remind your child that they may bring in 100 items of something that will fit in their backpack!
  • Please remind you child to turn in their January reading logs this week!
  • We are doing an awesome job at collecting box tops and so far we have 561.  We have until February 14th to keep bringing them in.  Keep up the great work!
  • Group pictures are this Friday, February 7th.  Any student in a group or club should wear their club t-shirt, brownie vest, boy scout uniform, etc. on Friday for these pictures!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  During writer's workshop this week we are going to use what we have learned about close reading to pay attention to details in our favorite books.  We are then going to use those details to grow new ideas for our writing!

Reading: During reader's workshop we are going to continue to use close reading as a reading strategy and analyze a text across multiple days.

Social Studies:  In social studies we are going to discuss how a good is made and then transported to the market and well as the sequence of events that happens in between this process!

Math:  This week in math we will be continuing to practice using money.  We are going to work on comparing amounts of money as well as making change from a dollar.
