January 27th-31st

Dear Families of Room 11,
I am excited for a full five days of learning this week!  Below are a few important reminders as well as our objectives for the week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:
  • The PTG Family Trivia Night is this Friday, January 31st, at Truman from 6:30-8:30.  
Weekly Objectives

Writing:  This week in writing we will be focusing on ways to make our letters about reading even better through setting goals for ourselves.

Reading:  This week in reading we will be using the reading strategy, close reading.  This strategy allows us to talk about our readings for deeper comprehension!

Social Studies:  In social studies we will discuss the choices that people make in order to save money or spend money.  We will also learn the purpose of banks!

Math:  This week in math we will be having our Chapter 12 test on Thursday.  To review at home you could practice the many ways you can create a dollar from coins as well as adding coins together!

January 21st-24th

I hope everyone is enjoying Martin Luther King Day!  Here are just a few reminders for the upcoming week as well as our learning objectives.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me!

  • January 21st is the State of the District Address at 7:00 p.m. at Concord!

Room 11's Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week in writing we are going to to use our letter writing skills to write letters to friends about our favorite book characters!

Reading:  This week in reading we are going to learn a new reading comprehension strategy: close reading!  Close reading allows us to deeply analyze our texts!

Social Studies:  In social studies we are going to learn the difference between goods and services!

Math:  This week in math we will be learning to count a mixed collection of coins as well as using coins to show the value of one dollar.

January 13th-17th

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Here are just a few reminders for the upcoming week as well as our learning objectives.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me!

Important Reminders!
  • Muffins with Mom is this Friday from 7:45 a.m.-8:15 a.m.!  Don't forget to turn in your RSVP as soon as possible!
  • Wednesday is an Early Release day!  Dismissal will be at 1:40 p.m.
  • It's not too late for your child to turn in those Winter Break Journals that I sent home at the beginning of break!  Also, please remind your child to turn in their December reading log!
Room 11's Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week in writing we are going to learn how to write a friendly letter.  We are then going to type our letters and send them to a "pen pal" class at another school!

Reading:  This week in reading we are going to review one of our previous reading comprehension strategies: visualization!

Social Studies:  In social studies we will begin Unit 4, People at Work.  This week we are going to discuss the relationship between people's choices and their needs and wants.

Math:  This week in math we will be finishing up Chapter 11, Practicing Double Digit Addition and Subtraction.  We will have a review on Tuesday and our test will be on Wednesday!

Welcome back!

Welcome back!
I hope everyone had a wonderful break and extra time off during the snow days! I am very excited to begin the use of a blog to keep families updated on the exciting happenings in our classroom!  

Today may have been the only day this week but we sure were busy!  Today Noah's grandmother, Mrs. Ryan, was our Mystery Reader and we enjoyed hearing her read the book "Are You My Mother?" by P.D. Eastman to our class.  Thank you again for coming to our classroom!
